Payments — how it works

Everything about pricing, payouts, KYC, refunds, and disputes on the platform.

This page summarises operational details and is pending legal review. Where the canonical Terms or Privacy Policy disagrees with this page, those documents prevail.

Platform fee

eventtally charges a 5% platform fee on each transaction (booking or ticket sale). The fee is taken from the gross amount the buyer pays; the vendor receives the remainder, less the provider's processing fee.

The buyer sees the platform fee and applicable taxes as line items at checkout before they confirm payment. The fee is not added on top — it's already inside the listed price.

VAT (Value-Added Tax)

Nigerian Value-Added Tax of 7.5% applies to the platform fee component (our service to you), per the Finance Act 2020. VAT is shown on every receipt and is the buyer's contribution toward our remittance to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The vendor's own goods and services are the vendor's VAT responsibility — eventtally does not collect VAT on the vendor's behalf.

Supported currencies

Today we support Nigerian Naira (NGN) and US Dollar (USD). All amounts are stored and processed in minor units (kobo / cents). Currency conversion, where applicable, is handled by the payment processor at their published rate.

Vendor KYC

Before vendors can receive payouts they must connect a bank account. We use the payment processor's account-name resolution to verify ownership: the name on the bank account must reasonably match the registered business or contact name on the profile.

Where automatic verification fails, a human reviewer on our side may follow up with the vendor for additional information. Vendors can always see the current status and any rejection reason on their Payouts page.

Payouts to vendors

Funds for successful transactions settle to the vendor's connected bank account on a T+1 basis after the platform's hold window. The hold window protects against chargebacks and refund requests; it is currently 5 days for service bookings and 1 day for event tickets.

Vendors can see each payout broken down (gross, platform fee, processing fee, net) on the settlement statements view inside their Payouts page.

Refunds and cancellations

The default cancellation policy is: full refund up to 7 days before the event date; no refund within 7 days. Vendors may publish a more permissive policy on individual listings; the policy in effect at the time of purchase is stamped onto the order and applies to any subsequent refund request.

Refund requests are initiated by the buyer from their order page and approved or rejected by the vendor within a stated SLA. Approved refunds are returned to the buyer's original payment method via the payment processor.

Disputes

If a buyer and vendor cannot reach agreement on a refund or service issue, either party may escalate to eventtally's support team. Disputes raised through the payment processor (chargebacks) are also handled by our team in coordination with the processor.

While a dispute is open, the related funds may be held pending resolution. Outcomes are documented on the order's history.

Payment processor

We use Paystack as the underlying payment processor for Nigerian transactions. Paystack is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and handles cardholder data, PCI compliance, and bank-account settlement on our behalf. eventtally never stores raw card numbers.

By completing a payment, the buyer agrees to Paystack's processing of their payment information as a sub-processor of eventtally (see Privacy Policy).
