The Garrison Hotel is a distinctive historic events and accommodation venue situated within Hillsborough Barracks on Penistone Road, Sheffield. The Grade II listed building was originally constructed as a military guardhouse and ammunition base in 1854 and retains many original Victorian features, including stone walls, turrets, ramparts and former guardroom cells. This gives the venue a substantially different character from conventional modern conference hotels. Our venue provides four principal conference and meeting spaces: the Guardhouse Suite, Garrison Suite, Cell and Armoury. The Guardhouse is the largest and can accommodate up to 120 delegates in a conference/presentation configuration. It is also used for larger private parties and can accommodate up to 120 seated guests, while the hotel's function information advertises evening events for up to 200 people. Smaller events can use the Garrison Suite, which accommodates up to 40 theatre-style delegates, or the Armoury and Cell, with capacities of approximately 30 and 40 respectively. The Garrison Suite incorporates original guardhouse cells and has access to a rooftop garden terrace. The venue also provides 43 en-suite bedrooms, an on-site restaurant and bar, free Wi-Fi and free parking. Our hotel is licensed for civil ceremonies and offers wedding packages, with the Guardhouse, Garrison Suite and Roof Top Terrace available for wedding ceremonies and receptions.
The Guardhouse is the Garrison Hotel's largest and most versatile event room. It combines historic military character with a central dance floor, private bar and presentation facilities. The room can be divided into smaller sections and is suitable for conferences, parties, wedding receptions, dinners, presentations and larger private functions.
The Garrison Suite is a distinctive smaller event room located within the historic Guardhouse building. Original guardroom cells form part of the room's character, while a private bar and terrace add flexibility. It is particularly suited to intimate meetings, dinners, private functions, smaller weddings and evening receptions.
The Cell is a basement conference and meeting room located within the former guardhouse. It can accommodate up to 40 delegates in theatre style and provides an atmospheric setting for meetings, training sessions, presentations and smaller corporate events. Its historic character differentiates it from conventional hotel meeting rooms.
The Armoury is a small conference room occupying the former ammunition-storage area of the historic barracks. The Grade II listed setting gives it a distinctive atmosphere, while its compact format makes it suitable for meetings, interviews, workshops, presentations and small corporate gatherings requiring a private environment.
The Rooftop Garden Terrace provides an outdoor event setting above the historic Garrison Hotel, with city views and original architectural features. It can accommodate up to 80 guests and is particularly suited to summer weddings, ceremonies, receptions and informal social events, with the adjoining Garrison Suite available as an indoor alternative.
