St George's Hall is a landmark Grade II listed Victorian concert hall in the heart of Bradford city centre. Opened in 1853 and designed by architects Lockwood and Mawson, it was Bradford's first major public building and was conceived as a large hall for concerts and public meetings. Its Italianate architecture, historic interiors and renowned acoustics give it a distinctive character that differentiates it from modern conference centres and hotel venues.*
Today, St George's Hall is operated by Bradford Theatres and remains principally a concert and live-entertainment venue. Its programme includes classical music, orchestral performances, comedy, family entertainment, talks and other live events, with the Hallé maintaining a long-standing association with the venue. The hall can accommodate up to 1,335 people seated and approximately 1,534 standing, making it one of Bradford's larger central-city event spaces.
The venue also promotes itself for meetings, conferences, corporate hospitality and events. Facilities include bars, catering, foyers, accessible toilets, wheelchair positions, hearing and visual assistance and a lift serving the stalls level. The building underwent a major multi-million-pound refurbishment between 2016 and 2019, improving the roof, windows, electrical systems, stonework, front-of-house areas, seating and sightlines while retaining its historic character and acoustic qualities.
