Bagshaw Museum is a Grade II listed Victorian Gothic mansion situated within the extensive Wilton Park in Batley, West Yorkshire. The building was constructed in 1875–76 for mill owner George Sheard and became a museum in 1911. It was originally known as the Wilton Park Museum before being renamed Bagshaw Museum after its first curator, Walter Bagshaw. Today, the museum combines historic architecture with collections covering local history, Ancient Egypt, South Asia, Africa and other cultural subjects. Permanent displays include two local-history galleries, the Spirit of South Asia, Kingdom of Osiris and Seaside Gallery. A versatile temporary exhibition space is also used for events and activities. For business and private hire, Kirklees Council promotes Bagshaw Museum alongside Oakwell Hall and Tolson Museum as a venue for training sessions, away days, conferences, meetings and other functions. The museum's Education Room provides the clearest identified dedicated meeting/event space. The venue's setting is a major attraction: Bagshaw Museum sits within approximately 36 acres of parkland and ancient woodland, with lakeside walks, gardens and other recreational facilities. Wilton Park itself can also be hired for outdoor events.
