Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre is one of Hartlepool's principal cultural and performing-arts venues. Designed in the Tudor Gothic style by architect Henry Arthur Cheers, the building originally served as the town's municipal hall before being renovated and converted into a theatre in 1977. Its historic architecture, ornate interior and traditional proscenium stage give it a distinctive character for performances and private events. The theatre presents a broad programme of professional and community productions, including comedy, drama, music, children's theatre and pantomime. It also supports local performing groups and is home to a theatre school. The main auditorium currently has a published capacity of approximately 397–402 seats, with the layout adaptable for cabaret and standing events. Beyond theatrical performances, the venue is available for weddings, parties, functions, meetings and other private or corporate events. Its stage and technical infrastructure make it particularly appropriate for productions, concerts, presentations and entertainment-led events, while the bar provides an additional social space. The venue also benefits from backstage rehearsal areas, dressing rooms and a smaller upstairs theatre. This makes it useful not only as an audience venue but also as a production and rehearsal facility for community and professional performers. Its central Hartlepool location and nearby public parking further support its use for events.
