Hazlewood Castle is a historic castle hotel and multi-purpose event venue located between Leeds and York in North Yorkshire. The estate is set within approximately 77 acres of woodland and landscaped grounds, providing a combination of historic architecture, countryside scenery and modern hospitality facilities. The property traces its history back to the Domesday Book and offers a distinctive setting for weddings, conferences, private celebrations, corporate events and residential stays. The castle contains several characterful event rooms, led by the Great Hall, which accommodates up to 160 guests for civil ceremonies and up to 130 for a wedding breakfast depending on layout. The Old Dining Room provides a smaller setting for dining, meetings and ceremonies, while the Victoria room offers an intimate space for smaller gatherings. St Leonard's Chapel, dating from 1286, provides a historic setting for ceremonies and performances. For larger celebrations, Hazlewood Castle operates a clear Garden Marquee overlooking the castle and grounds. The current venue information gives the marquee a capacity of up to 350 guests, making it the largest event space at the estate. The venue also has a Woodland wedding area and a Woodland Amphitheatre. The Great Hall is Hazlewood Castle's principal historic event room. Its high ceiling, stone architecture, columns, statues, marble fireplace and decorative medieval-style details create an imposing setting for weddings, ceremonies, conferences, dinners and receptions. It is the largest permanent indoor Castle room and the venue's principal grand-event space.
The Old Dining Room is an elegant historic room characterised by natural daylight, an ornate fireplace and decorative Adam-style ceiling and frieze. It offers a more intimate alternative to the Great Hall and is particularly appropriate for private dining, board meetings, smaller ceremonies and sophisticated receptions.
The Victoria room is a small, intimate event space suitable for ceremonies, meetings, private gatherings and smaller celebrations. The venue also packages the Victoria Lounge with the Castle grounds for smaller events. Its scale makes it particularly useful when an event requires privacy and historic character without the capacity of the Great Hall.
St Leonard's Chapel is a historic chapel dating from 1286, providing one of Hazlewood Castle's most distinctive spaces. Its Palladian altarpiece, decorative fretwork and historic glass create an atmospheric environment for ceremonies, musical performances and theatre-style events. It offers a particularly strong heritage setting within the wider Castle estate.
The Hazlewood Boardroom is the smallest dedicated business event room in the Castle's published venue inventory. Designed for approximately twelve people around a boardroom table, it is suited to executive meetings, interviews, confidential discussions and small corporate gatherings rather than large presentations or receptions.
The clear Garden Marquee is Hazlewood Castle's largest current event space. Located on the lawns overlooking the Castle, it combines a weather-protected indoor environment with views of the gardens and surrounding grounds. It is designed particularly for large weddings, receptions and celebrations and can accommodate up to 350 guests.
The Woodland Amphitheatre is a newer outdoor feature within Hazlewood Castle's woodland wedding environment. It provides a natural setting for ceremonies and outdoor presentations surrounded by the estate's woodland landscape.
