The Old Woollen is a characterful cultural and live-performance venue situated within the historic Sunny Bank Mills complex in Farsley, Leeds. Our building dates from 1830 and forms part of a four-storey, approximately 20,000 sq. ft. former textile-mill complex. We occupy the refurbished ground floor and operate as a centre for music, comedy, theatre, performance and wider cultural activity.
We are a collaboration between Trouble at Mill and Sunny Bank Mills, with Trouble at Mill responsible for much of our programming. Our current programme encompasses live music, comedy, theatre, talks, literature, dance and other performance-led events.
We describe ourselves as a 500-capacity venue. For wedding hire, our official information states that we can accommodate up to 500 guests standing or 225 seated, making us capable of supporting both performance-style and reception-style events.
The industrial heritage of Sunny Bank Mills is central to our identity. Rather than offering a conventional hotel ballroom, we provide exposed historic-mill character combined with modern technical infrastructure. We are also available for cultural hire, including photoshoots, film locations, workshops, meetings, conferences, performances and exhibitions.
From 2026 onwards, our wedding and private-hire options have expanded to include ceremonies and receptions, outdoor areas for food trucks and drinks receptions, and photography opportunities around the historic mill buildings.
