The White Horse is a traditional country pub and event venue located at 49 West Lane in Sharlston Common, between Wakefield and Pontefract. The venue combines a traditional pub and restaurant with a dedicated private function room, making it suitable for weddings, parties, meetings, afternoon teas, corporate lunches and other private celebrations. It is situated in peaceful private grounds with countryside views extending towards Emley Moor Tower. The principal event facility is the private function room, which is physically separate from the public house and has its own private bar, facilities and patio area. The current venue information states that the room can accommodate up to 70 guests for a sit-down meal and up to 100 evening guests, subject to menu and event requirements. The venue also offers wedding packages that can be customised around buffet or three-course dining. Its gardens provide an outdoor setting for photographs and informal gatherings. A marquee can additionally be arranged for celebrations requiring capacity of up to 100 guests. Beyond events, The White Horse operates as a family-friendly country pub serving home-cooked food, local craft ales and a selection of wines and spirits. It has a large beer garden with views across the surrounding countryside and a children's play area.
This self-contained event space sits to the right of the main pub, completely hidden away from regular pub visitors. It comes beautifully prepared for formal receptions, parties, or civil weddings. The stylish room includes its very own private bar area, dedicated restrooms, and direct double-door access out to a private patio.
The public heart of the pub offers a classic, cozy Yorkshire atmosphere with dark timber ceiling beams, plush red carpets, and traditional wooden seating. It is highly popular for casual gatherings, intimate family dinners, or lively community social events like the pub's weekly Tuesday night bike gatherings.
This massive outdoor lawn area boasts sprawling country views stretching all the way over to the famous Emley Moor Tower. Lined with rustic wooden picnic tables and a dedicated children's play park, it serves as a spectacular, wide-open backdrop for outdoor summer drinks receptions and vibrant family fun days.
The venue offers a stylish marquee option for celebrations requiring additional capacity beyond the permanent function room. The latest wedding information identifies the marquee as suitable for celebrations of up to 100 guests. It provides an alternative event environment while retaining access to the wider White Horse grounds and hospitality facilities.
