Leeds Civic Hall gives us a distinctive setting in the heart of the city, combining historic civic architecture with flexible spaces for conferences, concerts, ceremonies, weddings and other organised events. Positioned on Calverley Street opposite Millennium Square, our building remains closely connected with Leeds City Council while also serving as a multi-purpose venue. Our character is very different from that of a modern conference hotel. Formal interiors, historic architectural details and a strong civic atmosphere create a prestigious backdrop for organisations and individuals looking for something with greater heritage and ceremony. For weddings and civil ceremonies, we offer several dedicated spaces. Our West Room accommodates up to 38 guests, the Banquet Hall up to 90, and the Conference Room up to 60 when arranged for ceremonies. We also have a newly refurbished Events Room for post-ceremony celebrations and champagne receptions, with standing space for up to 40 guests and drinks and canapé packages available through our Flavour service. Alongside weddings and ceremonies, we host conferences, concerts, meetings and other civic or organised activities. As a working civic building, availability can vary around council business and other scheduled events, and exclusive use is not always possible. Whether you are planning a formal ceremony, conference, concert or celebration, Leeds Civic Hall provides an atmospheric alternative to conventional event venues, combining central city access with the distinctive character of a historic civic building.
The Banquet Hall is the largest of the Civic Hall spaces for which Leeds City Council currently publishes a specific ceremony capacity. It provides a formal historic setting appropriate for ceremonies, wedding receptions and other organised functions. Its traditional civic character makes it particularly attractive for formal events seeking an architectural setting rather than a contemporary hotel ballroom. The Council currently limits ceremony capacity to 90 guests.
The West Room is a smaller, more intimate space within Leeds Civic Hall. It is particularly associated with civil ceremonies and provides a historic interior with portraits and large windows. Its comparatively small capacity makes it appropriate for intimate weddings, civil partnerships and smaller formal gatherings. Leeds City Council currently states that the room can accommodate up to 38 ceremony guests.
The Conference Room provides a more practical meeting-oriented environment within Civic Hall. The Council currently uses it for ceremonies on selected Saturdays, particularly during July and August when concerts are taking place in neighbouring Millennium Square. For those ceremony arrangements, the published capacity is 60 guests.
The newly refurbished Events Room provides a contemporary reception option within the historic Civic Hall. It is designed primarily for post-ceremony celebrations and champagne receptions and has enough standing room for 40 guests. The room includes feature walls suitable for wedding photographs, tables for drinks and mingling, plus chairs and sofas for guests who cannot stand for long periods. Drinks and canapé packages are available through the Council's Flavour service.
