Ampleforth Abbey

Ampleforth Abbey is a distinctive heritage, conference, retreat and group-events venue situated within approximately 1,200 acres of North Yorkshire countryside. Founded in 1802, the Abbey remains a living Benedictine community and combines historic religious architecture with modern facilities for meetings, residential programmes, retreats and corporate events. The site includes the Grade I listed Abbey Church and extensive grounds, giving organisers a setting that is considerably different from a conventional hotel or conference centre. The Abbey provides a variety of meeting rooms and breakout spaces, supported by on-site audio-visual equipment, catering and dedicated event coordination. Its facilities can accommodate different meeting formats, with the regional venue listing reporting capacities ranging from 35 people in U-shape configuration to 100 for banquet and reception arrangements. Accommodation makes Ampleforth particularly suitable for multi-day events. Residential packages include catering, social spaces, classrooms and accommodation, while groups can also access sports and leisure facilities. The grounds provide opportunities for outdoor activities and corporate team-building. Beyond corporate use, Ampleforth caters to spiritual retreats, university groups, schools, charities, parishes, yoga groups and other organised groups. Overall, it is best characterised as a multi-purpose residential and conference venue with a strong heritage, spiritual and countryside identity.
