The Witham

At the heart of Barnard Castle, we provide a welcoming community arts centre where heritage, creativity and social activity come together under one roof. Our Grade II listed building combines a Georgian building with a beautifully refurbished Victorian Music Hall, giving us a distinctive setting for performances, celebrations, meetings and community activities. We offer flexible indoor and outdoor spaces that can accommodate anything from small gatherings to events for up to 250 people. Our facilities include the Witham Room, Music Hall, Café Bar, Gallery, County Room, garden and terrace, allowing us to adapt different areas around the needs of each occasion. We host theatre, music, comedy, dance, film, art, spoken word, classes and workshops, while our rooms are also available for private celebrations, business meetings, markets and memorial events. Our Café Bar provides locally sourced food, afternoon tea, cakes and drinks, while our accessible facilities, lift and rear-level access help us welcome a broad range of visitors and event guests.
