The Old Low Light Heritage Centre is a distinctive setting on North Shields Fish Quay, where our Grade II listed building brings local heritage, community activity and events together in one historic location. We tell the story of North Shields, its fishing community and the Fish Quay through exhibitions, talks, walks and activities, while our spaces also provide opportunities for private and community gatherings. Our building includes a heritage gallery, exhibition areas, a community space, café, shop and outdoor terrace overlooking the surrounding Fish Quay. We welcome local groups and visitors and provide rooms that can be hired for weddings, birthday parties, work events and regular meetings. Our programme also includes live music, classical concerts, wellbeing activities, heritage talks and exhibitions. We work closely with local organisations, artists, volunteers and community groups, helping us maintain the Old Low Light as an active community venue. Our historic surroundings and riverside location give gatherings here a character that connects every occasion with North Shields’ maritime past.
