The Plowright Theatre provides a traditional proscenium-style theatre setting in the centre of Scunthorpe. Originally opened in 1958 as Scunthorpe Civic Theatre, our venue was later renamed in recognition of local actress Joan Plowright. We retain much of the original auditorium structure while incorporating modern technical improvements for sound, lighting and audience experience. Our 330-seat auditorium provides an intimate setting for professional and community performances, making the theatre particularly suitable for comedy, music, drama, dance, family shows and other entertainment. We also welcome amateur societies and community groups, with the theatre serving as a home for local performing-arts productions. Our stage, technical facilities, dressing rooms, parking and accessibility provisions support both performers and audiences. The theatre is managed as part of Scunthorpe Theatres alongside The Baths Hall.
