The Civic, Holmfirth is a historic, part-Grade II listed events and community venue in the centre of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. The building incorporates the original Holmfirth Town Hall, constructed in 1842, and the adjoining Drill Hall, completed in 1891/92. The two buildings were acquired by the local authority in 1946 and reopened together as Holmfirth Civic Hall in 1947. Today, the venue is managed by Holmfirth Civic Hall Community Trust as a community-focused charitable organisation. The Civic provides a broad range of spaces suitable for concerts, theatre productions, conferences, meetings, exhibitions, fitness activities, dances, family celebrations, parties and community events. Its principal spaces are the Large Hall and Lesser Hall, supported by smaller rooms including the Reception Room and Exhibition Room. The Large Hall is capable of accommodating up to 320 people in theatre configuration and 448 standing, making it the venue's principal large-event space. The Large Hall is the principal event space at The Civic and is suitable for concerts, theatre, dancing, fitness activities, badminton, bowls, parties and larger celebrations. It features a substantial stage, tiered staging, PA/sound system, basic stage lighting, two badminton courts, tables, chairs and two pianos, including a baby grand.
The Lesser Hall is the smaller of the venue's two principal halls and offers a flexible setting for fitness classes, dancing, film screenings, talks, birthday parties and family celebrations. It has its own stage, PA/sound system, platform lift, tables and chairs, allowing it to function independently for smaller performances and events.
The Reception Room primarily operates as The Civic's Community Café but is also available for smaller meetings, talks, activities and community gatherings. It provides an informal and compact setting for smaller groups, with a whiteboard, tables and chairs. Its maximum published capacity is 52 standing or 32 in cabaret configuration.
The Exhibition Room is one of the additional spaces available within The Civic for hire. It is intended primarily for exhibitions and smaller community or event activities rather than large-scale functions. The venue confirms the room's availability, but its current official listing does not publish a detailed capacity or full facilities schedule.
