The Old Library in Birmingham is a beautifully restored, historic Victorian venue located in the heart of Digbeth's creative quarter. Originally opened in 1866 as the Deritend Free Library, it is the oldest and only surviving building of Birmingham’s original five free libraries. Today, it functions as a highly sought-after, independent event space hosting weddings, corporate events, and parties.
The Old Library is a beautifully restored Victorian building, starting life as the Deritend Library and opening in 1866. Full of period features, including vaulted ceilings and iconic arch windows, this space will conduct a positive and warm atmosphere. This impressive space has stood the test of time and remains the only one of Birmingham’s five original free libraries still standing.
The main space is split into two by four grand archways. The larger of the two areas can comfortably hold up to 100 delegates in cabaret style seating, with our blinds able to darken the room to your liking for presentations. The smaller of the two areas is home to the bar, and is where delegates can relax and grab refreshments throughout the day.
Just off the entrance foyer to The Old Library, and normally used as the buffet area, is the Reading Room. This private space is perfect as a breakout room for up to 12 delegates. This room has Wifi and flipchart pad & pens included in the room hire rate. The Reading Room can be used as a cloakroom, buffet area or organiser’s room.
Nomad is the Reception for The Zellig Building and is a fantastic collaborative working space open to the public. This relaxed work area is perfect for small group meetings of up to 6 people.
Based just opposite The Old Library in the parent building Zellig is 123, a small but perfectly formed meeting room. This meeting room includes a TV screen, WiFi access and refreshment facilities. Zellig 123 can be hired on it’s own or hired in conjunction with the main space as a breakout or organiser’s room. This can hold up to 20 people.
