Spearheaded by Stockport Council and brought to life through a landmark £14.5 million investment from the UK Government’s Future High Streets Fund, this transformative development opened its doors in May 2025. The project masterfully repurposed a vast expanse of previously vacant, underutilized retail units into a vibrant, multi-functional civic venue designed to foster learning, creativity, performance, and social connection. Boasting supreme central transport link integrations, the venue sits just a 3-minute walk or drive from the primary town corridors, providing visitors with an ultra-accessible, inclusive focal point for community events, corporate hires, and artistic collaborations.The striking interior spaces were designed by SpaceInvader, blending a clean, modern aesthetic with bright, airy structural layouts that welcome everyone from local families to professional touring performers. Acting as a massive multi-service civic anchor, the complex seamlessly houses Stockport’s brand-new town centre library, the borough's comprehensive historical archives, a vibrant children's creative learning center, and a dedicated, welcoming café-bar. Entirely wheelchair accessible and equipped with state-of-the-art information technology networks, Stockroom functions as a flexible blank-canvas framework that hosts a year-round cultural program spanning everything from yoga classes and literature festivals to live music acts, stand-up comedy showcases, and international art exhibitions.
