History shapes every occasion at The Hospitium. Set within York’s beautiful Museum Gardens, our 14th-century, two-storey listed building offers a memorable setting surrounded by the remains of St Mary’s Abbey and some of the city’s most historic scenery. Original timber features and medieval character combine with modern event facilities to create a venue that feels both authentic and practical. Our two floors make it possible to give different parts of an event their own atmosphere. The downstairs room can host ceremonies for up to 100 guests before being transformed for evening celebrations, while the upstairs room accommodates up to 120 guests for seated meals. Evening receptions can welcome up to 150 guests. We also cater for conferences, workshops, corporate functions, trade fairs, private parties and other gatherings, with theatre-style capacity for up to 150 delegates. AV equipment, hearing loops, microphones, ClickShare-enabled projection and livestreaming facilities are available to support modern events. With Museum Gardens surrounding us and York Railway Station around a 10-minute walk away, we offer history, flexibility and a truly distinctive York setting.
The 14th-century ground floor features original flagstones, striking medieval stone walls, and pillars that create an intimate, atmospheric backdrop. It serves perfectly as a atmospheric civil ceremony room, reception space, or corporate welcome area, accommodating up to 110 guests for service.
Ascend to the timber-framed upper hall, which highlights soaring vaulted ceilings and majestic exposed wooden beams. Flooded with natural light through lattice windows, it seats up to 130 guests for banquets or wedding breakfasts and features its own private bar.
