SPARK:York is a creative community venue located in the heart of York at 17–21 Piccadilly. It combines event facilities, independent food and drink businesses, creative studios, coworking facilities and community spaces within a distinctive urban setting. SPARK is designed to support independent businesses, creatives, community organisations and people looking for flexible spaces to bring ideas and events to life. Its principal event facility, the SHOW space, is a flexible multipurpose room suitable for screenings, meetings, workshops, performances, exhibitions, markets, parties, corporate events, rehearsals and community gatherings. The space can accommodate up to 80 people standing, 60 in theatre-style seating, 36 for a banquet-style meal, or 22 in a boardroom configuration. Event hire includes tables, chairs, Wi-Fi and power, while additional projector, screen, microphone and basic PA equipment can be hired. Catering can also be arranged through SPARK's independent food traders. The wider venue provides Wi-Fi, accessible toilets, baby-changing facilities, food and drink, coworking facilities, creative studios and outdoor space. SPARK is also wheelchair accessible, although its platform lift was temporarily out of service as of June 2026.
SHOW is SPARK:York's principal multipurpose event room and the main space intended for private and public events. It functions as a flexible blank canvas for screenings, meetings, workshops, performances, exhibitions, markets, corporate events, rehearsals and celebrations. The room has tables, chairs, Wi-Fi and power, with AV equipment available as an additional hire option.
WORK is SPARK's dedicated coworking environment designed for freelancers, remote workers, creatives and collaborative teams. It contains individual workstations and group desks, together with informal collaboration space and a Zoom room for private calls. Users receive fast Wi-Fi, refreshments and discounts from SPARK's food traders.
MAKE is SPARK's dedicated creative studio designed for artists and makers. The space contains five individual desks, each with associated storage, while the surrounding walls provide display space for creative work and reference material. A kitchenette and photography backdrop make the studio suitable for artists developing, documenting and exhibiting their work.
SPARK also provides dedicated meeting facilities for smaller gatherings, presentations and collaborative sessions. The meeting facility is distinct from the larger SHOW event space and is intended for more focused meetings.
