The Exchange 1856

The Exchange 1856 gives a distinctive Victorian setting for weddings, business events, celebrations, live entertainment and community occasions in the heart of North Shields. Built in 1856 and reborn in 2023, our venue combines historic character with modern facilities designed for a wide range of events. We offer a 500-capacity event space with professional sound and lighting systems, a flexible stage, dressing areas and easy Stage Door access, making us particularly well suited to live performances, gigs and cultural events. Our venue also supports business conferences, off-site meetings, product launches, parties and special occasions. For weddings and civil ceremonies, our light-filled Wedding Chapel accommodates up to 100 guests, while Brown’s Bar & Kitchen provides a welcoming setting with its own bar and private outdoor courtyard. We work with organisers through tailored packages and can provide dedicated event-planning support or simply the space needed to deliver an event independently.
