Fairfax House

@qf02iw

Fairfax House is one of York's finest Georgian townhouses, located on Castlegate opposite Clifford's Tower. The Grade I-listed property was remodelled in the eighteenth century for Viscount Fairfax by leading northern Georgian architect John Carr. Today, the house is presented as an immersive historic interior, furnished with the exceptional Noel Terry Collection of furniture, clocks, paintings and decorative arts. The property contains richly decorated Georgian rooms, exceptional plasterwork, carved woodwork and period furnishings. Rather than functioning like a conventional purpose-built conference centre, Fairfax House offers a distinctive heritage environment for private events, photoshoots, group visits and specialist experiences. The venue's official website specifically states that its magnificent Georgian rooms are available for hire for photoshoots and private events. Fairfax House can also accommodate organised group tours. Standard group visits require a minimum of 10 visitors, while the individual rooms can hold approximately 15 people per tour. Larger groups are therefore divided into smaller groups with staggered entry. Bespoke curator tours and exclusive candlelit evening tours are also available. Its central York location makes it particularly convenient for visitors arriving by rail, with York railway station less than a 10-minute walk away. Nearby Castle Car Park provides the closest general parking.
