History is woven into every corner of Middletons Hotel, a four-star boutique retreat within York’s ancient city walls. Rather than being housed in a single traditional hotel building, our 56 bedrooms and event facilities are spread across six historic Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings, each adding its own character to the experience. Our event spaces include the Organ Factory, Sawmill, Conservatory and Snug, offering a choice of settings for meetings, conferences, celebrations and intimate weddings. The Organ Factory is particularly unique, occupying a Victorian building once used as the workshop of York master organ builder Walter Hopkins. Today, this atmospheric space accommodates up to 40 delegates and provides a memorable setting for business gatherings. For lighter meetings, dining and social occasions, the Sawmill, Conservatory and Snug offer different atmospheres and layouts. Our dedicated meetings team, welcome host, fast Wi-Fi, modern equipment and catering help events run smoothly, while overnight accommodation is available for residential gatherings. Our secluded courtyard gardens provide an additional setting for wedding receptions, photographs and relaxed celebrations. The Organ Factory is one of Middletons' most distinctive meeting spaces. The historic Victorian building was formerly the workshop of York master organ builder Walter Hopkins, who produced organs for churches in York and beyond. It was subsequently converted into a first-floor conference room capable of seating up to 40 delegates. Its historic character makes it particularly suitable for business meetings that need more personality than a conventional conference room.
The Sawmill Suite delivers a spacious and highly versatile rustic charm. Designed with authentic wooden beams and historic red-brick archways, it hosts up to 60 guests for dinners or banquets. The layout acts as a blank canvas, giving hosts complete freedom to tailor decorative styles.
The Conservatory provides one of Middletons' lighter, more relaxed spaces and forms part of the hotel's dining and private-event offer. The hotel's restaurant operates across the Conservatory and Sawmill dining room, and the venue also promotes private dining and celebrations. Its connection to the hotel's courtyard and garden environment makes it suitable for intimate meals, drinks receptions and smaller celebrations.
The Snug is one of Middletons' named meeting/event spaces and is positioned as a more intimate alternative to the larger Organ Factory. Its smaller scale makes it appropriate for private meetings, focused discussions and small gatherings. The hotel groups the Snug with Organ Factory, Sawmill and Conservatory within its dedicated meetings-and-events portfolio.
