Woolas Barn is a distinctive rural event and wedding venue located at Woolas Grange in Appleton Roebuck, near York. Originally built in 1863 and situated on a family-run working farm, the venue combines authentic agricultural character with carefully restored event facilities. Its design centres around four interconnected areas: the Stables, Granary, Lambing Shed and Courtyard. The Stables, formerly used for the farm's working horses, has been restored into a dedicated ceremony room retaining original timber and brickwork and can accommodate up to 100 ceremony guests. The historic Granary forms the social centre of the venue, featuring a rustic bar, reception area, dance floor and two cosy upstairs snug areas. The Lambing Shed provides the principal dining space, with a vaulted ceiling, exposed brickwork and large glass doors overlooking the courtyard and surrounding Yorkshire countryside. The outdoor Courtyard provides additional space for drinks receptions, photographs and evening gatherings around the firepit. Woolas Barn offers exclusive use over a three-day period, giving clients considerable flexibility for preparation, the event itself and clear-up. The venue can accommodate approximately 120 guests for dinner and up to 160 guests for evening celebrations. It is licensed for civil ceremonies and provides parking, catering, bar facilities, event coordination and styling support.
The Stables is Woolas Barn's dedicated ceremony space, originally used to house the farm's working horses. The Granary is the oldest part of Woolas Barn and serves as the principal social and entertainment area. Its restored agricultural character is combined with a rustic bar, reception area, dance floor and two cosy upstairs snugs. The mezzanine provides an elevated view over the main celebration area, creating a distinctive evening-event atmosphere.
The Lambing Shed is Woolas Barn's principal dining area, combining a vaulted ceiling, exposed brickwork and traditional Yorkshire boarding with large glazed doors overlooking the courtyard and countryside. Its spacious layout makes it the venue's main wedding-breakfast and dining space, accommodating approximately 120 guests according to the venue's current published capacity.
The Courtyard is Woolas Barn's principal outdoor event area, positioned between the restored buildings and overlooking the surrounding Yorkshire countryside. It provides an informal setting for drinks receptions, photographs and outdoor gatherings. The space includes an outdoor firepit/log fire and offers views towards the Yorkshire Wolds, particularly attractive during evening celebrations.
