York Art Gallery

York Art Gallery is a distinctive cultural and events venue located in Exhibition Square in the centre of York, directly opposite Bootham Bar and approximately five minutes from York Minster. We combine historic and contemporary art collections with flexible private-hire areas that provide an unusual setting for corporate and social events. Private hire is available outside our normal public opening hours, including evenings and daytime Monday and Tuesday bookings. The ground-floor foyer and reception area can be transformed into a dining or reception space, accommodating formal seated meals, buffets and canapé events. The upstairs Burton Gallery provides an additional setting for drinks receptions, allowing guests to enjoy the gallery's art collection during their event. Our newer rooftop balcony, with its own private bar, provides an outdoor option overlooking the historic city walls and Museum Gardens and can be hired independently for smaller events. Our capacities include 150 for drinks receptions, 70 for formal seated dinners in the foyer and 50 for rooftop-balcony drinks events. We provide catering through our event partners and can arrange AV equipment, while microphones and PA facilities are available. We are wheelchair accessible and have a lift and accessible facilities. Our central location also provides convenient access from York railway station and nearby public car parks.
