King’s Manor

@s4nsr2

King’s Manor is one of York’s most significant historic buildings and is located in the heart of the city on Exhibition Square, between York Art Gallery and York Museum Gardens. The complex consists of Grade I listed buildings whose history stretches back to the medieval period, when the site served as the house of the abbots of St Mary’s Abbey. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the building became associated with the Council of the North and subsequently acquired its present name during the Tudor period. For many years, King’s Manor formed part of the University of York and housed academic departments while also functioning as a distinctive conference, meeting and events venue. Its facilities included the historic 16th-century Huntingdon Room and several fully equipped meeting rooms containing presentation and computer equipment. The University of York promoted the building for conferences, meetings and special occasions and reported catering provision for up to 90 delegates. The building's institutional use has now changed. York St John University has acquired King's Manor and states that information about event-space hire will be released in due course.
