Carlton Towers is a historic private stately home and Yorkshire heritage estate in Carlton, near Goole and within reach of York. The property is the family home of Lord Gerald and Lady Emma Fitzalan Howard and has a long history of entertaining guests. Today, part of the house and estate is made available for exclusive weddings, corporate retreats, private celebrations, outdoor events and other bespoke experiences. The venue combines grand historic interiors with extensive outdoor space. Its principal indoor facilities include three large characterful state rooms, while the wider estate provides approximately 250 acres of woods and parkland and a 12-acre lake. This makes Carlton Towers suitable for both traditional indoor celebrations and large outdoor activities. One of the estate's most distinctive event spaces is the Walled Garden Vineyard, where rows of vines provide a backdrop for weddings, private dinners, drinks receptions and intimate outdoor ceremonies. A stretch tent can provide shelter for events in the vineyard. Carlton Towers also has substantial accommodation, including 16 bedrooms in the main house, four en-suite Stapleton rooms and two self-catering Parkgate Cottages. Exclusive use of the main house includes its 16 guest rooms. The venue also provides in-house chefs, event support, parking and access to the wider estate.
This breathtaking Picture Gallery is the largest internal space within the castle. Stretching beneath high, oak-beamed ceilings and massive, glittering chandeliers, its walls feature ancestral artwork. Bathed in natural daylight from towering Gothic windows, this grand space effortlessly accommodates up to 220 reception guests or 144 seated dining delegates.
The hyper-detailed Venetian Drawing Room is a masterclass in Gothic Revival opulence. It features stunning gold-leaf geometric walls, a colossal, intricately carved fireplace mantle, and historic full-height drapes. Ideal for luxury wedding ceremonies or formal state banquets, the room accommodates up to 150 total reception attendees or 96 seated dinners.
The Card Room is a smaller event and entertainment space within Carlton Towers. It is currently used for evening entertainment, including dancing and DJ events, providing a more relaxed environment after formal dining in the principal rooms. Its smaller scale makes it particularly useful for evening parties and entertainment.
The Walled Garden Vineyard is one of Carlton Towers' most distinctive outdoor event spaces. Rows of vines create a picturesque backdrop for ceremonies, drinks receptions and private dinners. A stretch tent provides shade or shelter, allowing the vineyard to function in changing weather. It is particularly attractive for intimate outdoor celebrations.
The Duchess’s Dining Room at Carlton Towers is a remarkably grand space lined with historic, dark wood paneling, massive gilded chandeliers, and a colossal, elaborately sculpted fireplace mantle. It is highly sought after for fine private dining experiences and corporate board meetings, comfortably seating up to 16 to 20 guests along its central banquet table.
Carlton Towers' approximately 250 acres of parkland provide the estate's largest outdoor event environment. The grounds can host outdoor weddings, country fairs, live performances, classic-car events, festivals and team-building activities. Their scale provides considerable flexibility for temporary event infrastructure and large gatherings without the restrictions of a conventional indoor venue.
