Huddersfield Parish Church, formally the Church of St Peter, is a prominent historic church in the centre of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Located on Byram Street with the church itself facing Kirkgate, the building occupies a central town-centre position close to Huddersfield railway and bus stations. The present church dates from the 19th century and forms an important part of Huddersfield's architectural and community heritage. The church has developed a wider community role alongside its religious functions and makes its premises available for external organisations. Its main church space can be booked for concerts, performances, conferences and other events, making it particularly attractive for organisations looking for a historic and visually distinctive venue rather than a conventional hotel conference room. A separate Community Room provides a more practical setting for smaller meetings and gatherings. The room can accommodate up to 50 people and can be arranged in meeting, conference or café-style layouts. Kitchen facilities are available for refreshments. Accessibility is supported through ramp access for wheelchair users, designated parking arrangements near the main entrance and a hearing induction loop. The church is approximately two minutes from Huddersfield railway and bus stations, giving it strong public-transport accessibility.
The majestic main auditorium features an impressive vaulted ceiling and exceptional acoustic design, making it a premier venue for choral performances, orchestral concerts, and acoustic folk festivals. It comfortably accommodates larger public audiences while surrounding guests with stunning historic stained-glass windows and traditional wooden pews.
The Community Room is the church's dedicated smaller meeting and community-hire space. It accommodates up to 50 people and can be configured in meeting, conference or café-style layouts. Kitchen facilities are available for refreshments, making it suitable for meetings, workshops, training, community groups and smaller private gatherings.
This recently revitalized £500,000 outdoor community space serves as a dedicated public plaza right outside the church steps. Specifically engineered for festivals, markets, and open-air gigs, the courtyard accommodates crowds up to 1,000 people and features integrated electrical setups for lighting rigs and live music amplifiers.
