Oakwell Hall & Country Park is a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house situated in Birstall, West Yorkshire, between Leeds and Huddersfield and close to the M62. The historic house is furnished to represent a family home of the 1690s and has literary significance through its association with Charlotte Brontë, who visited the property and used it as the inspiration for Fieldhead in her 1849 novel Shirley. The venue combines the historic hall with approximately 110 acres of Green Flag Award-winning country park, restored period gardens, nature trails, a mountain-bike track, playground, picnic areas, visitor facilities and café. This combination makes Oakwell particularly suitable for meetings and conferences that benefit from access to outdoor space and team-building activities. For formal business events, the venue offers several meeting spaces. The Oakwell Barn is the largest and can accommodate up to 110 delegates theatre-style, 30 boardroom-style or 60 in cabaret layout. Smaller options include the Fieldhead Room and Upstairs Classroom. Facilities include free Wi-Fi, projector and screen, and, in the Barn, a PA system and preparation kitchen. Oakwell also operates as a licensed wedding and ceremony venue. The Great Hall accommodates up to 60, while the Barn accommodates up to 110. Outdoor ceremonies are also possible in the Walled Garden, Meadow and Arboretum, subject to the applicable capacity and availability.
Oakwell Barn is an historic stone-built meeting and event space with exposed traditional beams, flagged floors and stone walls. Its exclusive terrace overlooks the surrounding parkland and can function as a breakout area. It is the venue's largest meeting space and supports conferences, weddings, receptions, training and corporate events.
The Great Hall is the principal ceremonial space within the Grade I listed Elizabethan manor. Its historic architecture provides a distinctive setting for civil ceremonies and heritage experiences. The room accommodates up to 60 guests for ceremonies and is best suited to intimate weddings, heritage functions and selected cultural activities.
The Fieldhead Room is a smaller meeting room located upstairs within Oakwell's courtyard complex. Its exposed-beam character reflects the traditional architecture of the Barn spaces. With capacity for 14 delegates in presentation or boardroom layouts, it is particularly suitable for small meetings, interviews, workshops and focused training sessions.
The Upstairs Classroom is a compact meeting and training space within the courtyard complex. Its traditional exposed-beam design complements the Barn environment and makes it suitable for small training sessions, meetings and workshops. It accommodates up to 18 in presentation format or 20 in boardroom configuration.
Oakwell Hall's restored period Walled Garden provides an attractive outdoor setting associated with the historic manor. It can host outdoor civil ceremonies and provides a distinctive backdrop for photography and events.
The Arboretum provides a more intimate outdoor setting surrounded by mature trees and parkland. It is available for outdoor civil ceremonies and is particularly appropriate for smaller celebrations seeking a natural setting. Has a maximum ceremony capacity of 30 for the Arboretum.
The Meadow provides an open outdoor setting within Oakwell Hall's country-park landscape. It is licensed for outdoor wedding ceremonies and offers greater open-air space than the formal Walled Garden. Has a maximum ceremony capacity of 70, subject to seasonal availability and venue conditions.
