Lakeside Conference Centre is a purpose-built conference and events venue located within York Biotech Campus at Sand Hutton, approximately seven to eight miles from central York. The centre sits within a substantial wooded parkland setting and provides a distinctive alternative to traditional city-centre conference hotels. It is particularly suited to organisations seeking a professional event environment surrounded by countryside and science-focused businesses. Our venue's principal feature is the Sand Hutton Suite, a 250-seat auditorium with floor-to-ceiling windows and views towards the campus lake. The centre also has flexible meeting rooms for smaller groups, together with a spacious mezzanine and atrium that can be used for exhibitions, catering, networking and breakout activities. Lakeside Conference Centre provides integrated audio-visual equipment, IT support, video conferencing, reception services and a dedicated events team. Full catering is available, with options ranging from refreshments to larger event catering. The centre also offers exclusive evening and weekend access, providing flexibility for organisations that need to run events outside normal working hours. Our venue has 150 free car-parking spaces and disabled access throughout its facilities. There is no conventional hotel accommodation on site, but the events team can work with nearby accommodation providers for residential conferences.
The Sand Hutton Suite is the centre's main auditorium and accommodates up to 250 delegates. It has fixed/raked auditorium seating, floor-to-ceiling windows and views towards the lake. The space is particularly suitable for keynote presentations, conferences, panel sessions, educational events and large-scale corporate presentations.
The Claxton Room is a flexible meeting space suitable for smaller conferences, workshops, training and breakout sessions. Current venue information gives a capacity of approximately 50 people in the room. The Kirkham Room is another flexible meeting room designed for meetings, workshops, training and smaller conference sessions. Current venue information lists a capacity of approximately 50 people. It can operate as an individual meeting space or as a breakout room supporting a larger event taking place in the auditorium.
The mezzanine is a large, open event-support area overlooking the atrium. It is particularly useful for catering, networking, exhibitions and breakout activities. It can accommodate exhibition-style arrangements and provides an important transition space between conference sessions.
The venue is situated within 32 hectares of beautifully manicured, wooded countryside. A wide, paved outdoor terrace wraps directly around the main facility, directly overlooking the scenic central campus lake. Outfitted with seasonal patio umbrellas and comfortable outdoor seating, this lakeside expanse serves as a popular, fresh-air hub for summer BBQs, team-building activities, creative corporate retreats, and scenic evening delegate drinks receptions.
