ast Riding Theatre is a professional independent theatre situated in a converted former Baptist chapel on Lord Roberts Road in Beverley. The historic building was transformed into a theatre and opened in 2014 following a major community-led renovation. Today, it presents a programme covering theatre, music, comedy, literature and other live entertainment, serving audiences in Beverley and the wider East Riding of Yorkshire. The principal event facility is its main auditorium, which has a published capacity of approximately 190 seats. The auditorium uses a thrust-stage configuration, making it particularly appropriate for theatrical productions and live performances. The building also contains a licensed café-bar, which provides refreshments before performances and during intervals and can function as an informal social or reception area. The theatre has theatrical sound and lighting facilities and has previously supported productions requiring dedicated technical equipment. Accessibility is a significant feature: the venue has accessible toilets, wheelchair spaces, an induction hearing loop and trained front-of-house guides for visually impaired patrons.
The Main Auditorium is East Riding Theatre's principal event and performance space, featuring a distinctive thrust-stage arrangement that places the audience around the performance area. With approximately 190 seats, it is designed primarily for theatre, music, comedy, talks and other live performances requiring a dedicated stage and audience environment.
The ERT Café Bar is a warm, rustic communal hub managed by a friendly team of dedicated volunteers. With exposed architectural beams and a fully licensed service counter, the space accommodates relaxed social events, birthday parties, networking mixers, and intimate creative launch parties accompanied by breakfast, fresh lunches, and homemade cakes.
