Middlethorpe Hall & Spa is a historic William III country house hotel located approximately two miles from York city centre. Built in 1699, the house is surrounded by more than 20 acres of gardens and parkland and forms one of the three Historic House Hotels associated with the National Trust. Our period architecture, landscaped grounds, antiques and fine-art collection provide a distinctive setting for weddings, corporate meetings, private dining, receptions, celebrations and small conferences. We are particularly suited to small and medium-sized events rather than large conferences. Our principal dedicated meeting facility is the Barlow Room, which accommodates up to 56 people and has its own entrance, bar, kitchen, cloakrooms, AV facilities and outdoor terrace. The Drawing Room can accommodate up to 60 people and is promoted for receptions, networking, product launches, family gatherings and afternoon tea. For private dining, the Grill Room accommodates up to 56, the Pineapple Room up to 22 and the Yellow Room up to 14. Smaller meetings can be held in the Boardroom, which accommodates 10. The historic Dovecote provides an unusual setting for wine or champagne tastings and accommodates 12 for meetings. We also offer 29 guest rooms and suites, an award-winning restaurant, extensive gardens, complimentary Wi-Fi and parking, and a separate spa with swimming pool, sauna, steam room, spa bath, treatment rooms and gym.
Located in a beautifully converted coach house 50 yards from the main hotel, this self-contained, air-conditioned venue features its own private entrance, bar, and courtyard terrace. It seamlessly accommodates up to 56 guests, making it ideal for business conferences, private dinners, family celebrations, or romantic wedding ceremonies.
The Drawing Room is one of Middlethorpe Hall's most impressive historic spaces, featuring high ceilings, antique furnishings, fine prints and paintings and uninterrupted views across the manicured lawns. It is particularly suited to reception drinks, networking events, product launches, family gatherings and afternoon tea, providing a classic country-house atmosphere.
The Grill Room is Middlethorpe's largest dedicated private-dining space. It can accommodate up to 56 guests and has its own adjoining reception room for pre-dinner drinks. It is particularly appropriate for wedding breakfasts, private dinners, business entertaining, family occasions and celebration-of-life gatherings.
The Pineapple Room is a light, elegant private room with a high ceiling and large sash windows overlooking Middlethorpe's lawns and gardens. Its capacity of up to 22 makes it particularly appropriate for intimate business lunches, small private dinners, wedding breakfasts, family occasions and day-meeting lunches.
The Yellow Room is a small, intimate private-dining room overlooking the gardens. Seating up to 14 guests, it is particularly suited to private dinners, intimate wedding breakfasts, family celebrations and small business entertaining. For weddings, it can form part of a sequence with the Upstairs Sitting Room and Library.
The Boardroom is a first-floor meeting room in the historic Hall, overlooking the south lawn. It accommodates up to 10 people and has an adjoining sitting room furnished with armchairs and a desk. It is designed for confidential meetings, interviews, private drinks, coffee breaks and use as a syndicate room.
The historic Dovecote, dating from approximately 1680, stands within Middlethorpe's walled garden and now houses part of the hotel's extensive wine collection. It provides an unusual setting for wine or champagne tastings and intimate gatherings. The meeting facility is listed for up to 12 people.
