The Glasshouse International Centre for Music is a distinctive glass-domed cultural and events venue situated at Gateshead Quays on the River Tyne, overlooking Newcastle's skyline. Formerly known as Sage Gateshead, it is best known as a major music and performing-arts centre, but its facilities also make it a substantial conference, exhibition and corporate-events venue. The building contains two auditoria, flexible flat-floor function spaces, smaller meeting areas and a large central concourse. The largest space is Sage One, a three-tiered auditorium with capacity for approximately 1,640–1,700 people, depending on the configuration and source. Sage Two provides a more intimate auditorium for up to 330 people. For conferences and functions, the Northern Rock Foundation Hall provides a flat-floor space for up to 200 people according to the venue's own events information, while the Barbour Room can accommodate up to 250. The venue also offers a large central Concourse, which can be used for exhibitions, dinners, parties, networking and registration. The Glasshouse provides in-house catering, technical production support, free Wi-Fi, accessible facilities, parking and event-planning assistance. It is particularly suitable for conferences, conventions, awards ceremonies, exhibitions, product launches, corporate events, performances, receptions and large-scale cultural events.
