The Fog On The Tyne

The Schooner was a long-established pub on South Shore Road beside the River Tyne in Gateshead. The premises subsequently changed ownership and were extensively refreshed, reopening under the name The Fog On The Tyne. The current operator describes it as a small independent free house in Gateshead focused on beer, food, music and art. The venue operates primarily as a pub and restaurant rather than a conventional conference or dedicated function centre. Its current food offer includes burgers and classic pub food using ingredients from local independent suppliers. Events are an important part of the venue's identity. The current programme includes a weekly pub quiz, live bands, DJs and acoustic performers, with entertainment taking place both indoors and outdoors. The venue also promotes larger special-event weekends and independently organised music events. The property has a substantial outdoor/patio area and is positioned close to the River Tyne, giving it a distinctive setting for informal social events. CAMRA describes the current Fog On The Tyne as having a very large patio drinking area.
