BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is an internationally recognised contemporary-art venue located on Gateshead Quayside overlooking the River Tyne. The building occupies a former flour mill and was transformed into a contemporary art centre in 2002. Today, BALTIC combines exhibition galleries with a range of flexible event and hospitality spaces, making it much more than a conventional gallery. Its dramatic industrial architecture, riverside views and position beside the Gateshead Millennium Bridge provide a distinctive setting for private and corporate events. BALTIC's current venue-hire offering covers large conferences, meetings, fashion shows, television broadcasts, product launches, corporate showcases, fairs, weddings, parties and networking events. The building also provides a 54-seat cinema, flexible Level 1 event space, Riverside space with an outdoor terrace, smaller meeting/viewing spaces and a Level 6 rooftop event space. For weddings and celebrations, BALTIC offers licensed ceremonies throughout the building and provides dedicated wedding-planning support. The venue promotes spaces ranging from large gallery environments to more intimate rooms with panoramic views. BALTIC also has Baltic Kitchen, free Wi-Fi, accessible facilities, technical/event support and catering options. The former Six Rooftop restaurant permanently ceased trading on 2 February 2026, although the rooftop area remains available for event hire.
The Level 1 area is BALTIC's principal large-scale event environment and provides the grandeur and scale of a gallery/exhibition space. It can be used for conferences, corporate events, fashion shows, product launches, showcases and fairs. The space also incorporates the 54-seat exclusive cinema, Cube and a welcome/reception area, allowing organisers to create breakout and registration zones.
BALTIC Riverside is a mezzanine-level event space with impressive views across the River Tyne and an exclusive outdoor terrace. The current 2026 hire pack gives its capacity as 75–250. It is suitable for networking, receptions, parties, weddings and corporate events, particularly where outdoor space and riverside views are important.
The Level 6 Rooftop provides a dramatic elevated event setting overlooking Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. It is suitable for weddings, receptions, parties, networking and dining-style events. The current 2026 hire information gives a capacity of 50–150.
The Level 6 Viewing Box is a smaller panoramic space designed for intimate events and meetings. It provides views over the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside and is particularly appropriate for smaller networking gatherings, meetings and private celebrations. The current 2026 hire pack gives a capacity of 25–50.
The Level 1 Meeting Room is a smaller professional meeting space equipped for corporate use. The current published configuration allows 20 people in U-shape, 25 boardroom-style or 30 theatre-style. The 2025 hire pack specifies a plasma/LED screen, flip chart and markers, event Wi-Fi and furniture as part of the meeting package.
Level 5 contains smaller rooms with panoramic views over the River Tyne. BALTIC describes Levels 5 and 6 as more intimate event spaces suitable for networking and meetings.
