St Mary's by the Tyne

Dating back to at least 1300, our historic building provides a distinctive setting for weddings, celebrations, performances, community gatherings and cultural events in Gateshead. We combine the character of a former medieval church with facilities that support modern events, creating an atmospheric space where heritage and contemporary use come together. Our Main Hall offers flexible seating, a large dance floor, stage, lighting, audio equipment, projector and screen, while our fully licensed bar and kitchen facilities support receptions and other gatherings. The building also includes Green Room changing facilities, free Wi-Fi and accessible entry through our ramped main entrance. We welcome a wide range of activities, from weddings and music events to theatre, rehearsals, talks, heritage programmes and community occasions. Our historic setting, impressive architecture and connection with Gateshead’s heritage give each event a distinctive backdrop. We also continue to operate as a place where visitors, local groups and communities can gather, celebrate and learn.
