Conisbrough Castle

@d8yq6i

Conisbrough Castle is an exceptionally well-preserved medieval castle in Conisbrough, approximately 4½ miles south-west of Doncaster. Managed by English Heritage, the site is dominated by its distinctive cylindrical stone keep, which stands approximately 27 metres high and dates principally from the late 12th century. The castle is Grade I listed and is one of the most recognisable historic landmarks in South Yorkshire. For event and venue purposes, Conisbrough Castle should be categorised primarily as a heritage and experiential event location, rather than a conventional meeting or conference centre. The castle grounds provide an atmospheric historic backdrop for community activities, educational programmes, photography, filming and special events. Commercial, corporate and professional photography and filming can be considered subject to availability, permissions and the necessary paperwork. The site contains the castle keep, inner bailey, visitor centre, exhibition displays, grassed areas and picnic facilities. Visitors can explore the keep's three principal chambers and miniature chapel, while projected interpretation and displays explain the history of the castle and its inhabitants.
