Sunniside Gardens

Sunniside Gardens is a landscaped outdoor public space located in the historic Sunniside area of Sunderland city centre. It provides an adaptable setting for public and private events and is one of Sunderland City Council's designated event spaces. The current council venue pack identifies the site as approximately 3,040 m², with an event capacity of 3,500–4,000 people depending on infrastructure, layout and the areas used. The gardens have a paved hard-standing surface, making them particularly suitable for temporary event infrastructure such as stages, audience areas, stalls and other installations. The site has an on-site power supply, while water is not provided on site. There are also no permanent toilets, meaning event organisers need to make appropriate arrangements for temporary facilities. The council specifically identifies Sunniside Gardens for concerts and day festivals, private or corporate parties and community events with moderate infrastructure. The location is well connected to Sunderland city centre, with pedestrian access from High Street West, West Sunniside, Norfolk Street and St Thomas Street. The gardens are also close to public transport and city-centre parking. The space is actively used for food markets, cultural celebrations, festivals and community programming.
