Cubley Hall is a historic country-house venue situated on Mortimer Road in Cubley, near Penistone, Sheffield. Set within approximately 4.5 acres of South Yorkshire countryside, we combine a traditional country-house atmosphere with a pub, restaurant, hotel accommodation and dedicated event facilities. Our location on the edge of the Peak District and South Pennines gives us a distinctly rural setting while remaining accessible from Sheffield, Barnsley, Leeds and Manchester. We are approximately 14 miles from Sheffield, 8 miles from Barnsley and 27 miles from Leeds. We have a long history and were developed into a country-house pub in the 1980s. Our original oak-beamed stone barn was converted into a restaurant in 1990 and renamed The Barn, which now hosts wedding breakfasts, receptions and business meetings. We subsequently added our hotel in 1996, while our distinctive Garden Pavilion was developed later as an outdoor ceremony and event facility. Today, we cater for private functions, community meetings, business meetings, weddings, civil ceremonies, receptions, dining events and entertainment. Our current function-room options include the Blue Room, Lockley Lounge, The Lounge and The Barn, while our wedding brochure gives capacities ranging from 30–40 guests in The Lounge to up to 300 for informal entertainment and dancing in The Barn.
The Barn is Cubley Hall’s premier stone-walled event space, showcasing traditional rustic architecture complete with historic oak beams. This atmospheric setting accommodates up to 110 seated guests for formal wedding breakfasts and expands to host up to 300 guests for lively evening buffet receptions and dancing.
The Blue Room is Cubley Hall's smallest specifically named function room. Measuring approximately 4.0 × 3.6 metres, it provides an intimate setting for small meetings and private gatherings. The current official function-room page lists seating for 12. Its scale makes it particularly appropriate where organisers need a quiet, dedicated room rather than a large event environment.
The Lounge is an 8 × 5.5 metre space and is one of Cubley Hall's principal smaller event rooms. The current function-room page gives it a capacity of 40 seated, while the wedding documentation specifies 30–40 guests for ceremonies, formal table settings and informal buffet-style events. It is located within The Barn and can potentially expand into the wider Barn for evening receptions, subject to the date and booking arrangements.
The Garden Pavilion is Cubley Hall's distinctive outdoor ceremony/event structure. Set within the venue's gardens, the Victorian-style pavilion provides countryside views and a dedicated setting for civil wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships. The pavilion was developed as part of Cubley Hall's expansion into outdoor wedding ceremonies and remains one of the venue's signature event features.
