Newby Hall & Gardens is a historic country-house estate on the banks of the River Ure in North Yorkshire, close to Ripon and within the wider Harrogate tourism area. The estate combines a historic house, extensive gardens, parkland and several distinctive spaces that can be used for weddings, corporate events, private celebrations and filming. The house dates from the late seventeenth century and was subsequently remodelled by John Carr, with interiors associated with Robert Adam and furniture by Chippendale. For events, Newby offers a particularly flexible combination of indoor and outdoor spaces. The Library can accommodate ceremonies for up to 80, while the Orangery provides a restored setting with a contemporary steel-and-glass marquee. The Orangery can accommodate up to 120 seated guests and 180 for an evening event. The Main Hall can be used for drinks receptions, while the Statue Gallery and Library provide historic interiors for ceremonies. For substantially larger celebrations, the estate's Marquee Site beside the River Ure can accommodate up to 500 guests. Newby also offers on-site catering, parking, event-planning support and wedding coordination. Its combination of historic architecture, formal gardens, riverside scenery and flexible event spaces makes it particularly suited to weddings, private celebrations, corporate hospitality and bespoke large-scale events.
The Library is one of Newby Hall's principal historic ceremony spaces, combining richly decorated Georgian interiors, bookshelves, period furnishings and views towards the estate. It can host wedding ceremonies for up to 80 people and can also form part of a wider event arrangement using the Main Hall and other house spaces.
The restored Grade I-listed Orangery is Newby Hall's principal dedicated event venue. Its historic architecture is combined with a contemporary steel-and-glass marquee, creating a distinctive indoor/outdoor setting. It includes catering facilities, toilets, furniture and a fully stocked and staffed bar and is designed for weddings and special celebrations.
The Main Hall provides an impressive historic setting for drinks receptions and event arrivals. Newby Hall's current wedding information specifically lists the Main Hall for drinks-only receptions, making it particularly useful as a reception or arrival component alongside the Library, Orangery or other event spaces.
The Statue Gallery is an important historic interior within Newby Hall and can be incorporated into ceremony arrangements alongside the Library. It contains the estate's notable sculpture collection and provides a highly distinctive period setting.
The riverside Marquee Site provides Newby Hall's largest published event capacity. Located within the estate overlooking the River Ure, it is designed for substantial celebrations and large-scale receptions. The site can accommodate up to 500 guests, making it the estate's principal option for very large weddings, private functions and corporate events.
The Church of Christ the Consoler is a striking Victorian church located within the Newby Hall estate and provides a religious ceremony option. Newby Hall's current wedding information gives the church a capacity of 240, making it substantially larger than the Library or Orangery ceremony configurations.
The award-winning Outdoor Gardens span over 25 to 40 acres and are divided into 14 distinct themed compartments. The crown jewel is the spectacular 172-meter-long double herbaceous perennial borders, which frame a perfectly manicured lawn walkway cascading directly down towards the banks of the River Ure.
