Wilberforce House Museum

@09ac7s

Wilberforce House Museum is one of Hull's most significant historic buildings and is located in the city's Old Town within the Museums Quarter. Built in the early 1660s, the house is best known as the birthplace of William Wilberforce, the Hull MP and prominent campaigner against the slave trade. Today, the museum explores Wilberforce's life alongside the history of transatlantic slavery, abolition and the continuing legacies of slavery. Its galleries also explore aspects of West African culture and Hull's wider social history. Beyond its role as a museum, Hull Museums and Gallery makes several parts of the property available for venue hire. The museum itself is promoted for intimate talks, performances and drinks receptions, while the Front Parlour offers a much smaller historic setting for meetings and gatherings. The Wilberforce House Learning Centre provides the most flexible modern event environment, with a sprung floor and the ability to divide the space into two smaller areas. It is suitable for lectures, training, activities, intimate performances and team away days. The Museum Garden provides an additional outdoor setting and can be hired alongside an indoor space as a breakout or reception area. Hull Museums can also provide seating, technical support and catering by arrangement.
