Discovery Museum is one of Newcastle upon Tyne's best-known museums and also operates as a distinctive private and corporate events venue. Located on Blandford Square, approximately five minutes' walk from Newcastle Central Station, the Grade II-listed building combines historic architecture with modern event facilities. Its most prominent event space is the Great Hall, a large Art Deco/High Victorian-style room originally constructed as a meeting space for the Co-operative Wholesale Society in 1899.
The venue offers a broad range of spaces, from intimate wood-panelled meeting rooms to large galleries and the Great Hall. Events can include conferences, weddings, dinners, corporate events, birthday parties, Christmas parties, proms, away days, board meetings and team-building activities.
The Great Hall measures approximately 573 square metres and is equipped with a built-in stage, making it particularly suitable for conferences, dinners, wedding receptions, lectures and dances. The museum's galleries can also be hired for receptions and hospitality events, creating a distinctive museum setting around historic collections and the famous Turbinia steam turbine-powered vessel.
The venue provides event support, catering, tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery, glassware and AV equipment. Accessibility is supported by lifts serving all floors.
