For more than a century, we have welcomed audiences, performers and community groups to our theatre on Stephenson Road in Heaton. People's Theatre combines a traditional main auditorium with flexible spaces that can support performances, celebrations, meetings, conferences, workshops and rehearsals. Our Main Auditorium provides 480 seats, a large flat stage, wing space, a flying gallery and professional lighting and sound facilities. We also have a versatile Studio Theatre, modern foyer and bar, exhibition gallery, two rehearsal rooms and a comfortable Greenroom with its own bar. Our spaces can be hired individually or combined to suit different events, giving organisers flexibility over layouts and facilities. We provide step-free access to our foyer, Studio Theatre and Main Auditorium, with wheelchair spaces and a hearing loop available. Our venue also benefits from wardrobe, props, workshop and set-preparation facilities. We welcome theatre companies, organisations, community groups and private hirers looking for a practical and characterful Newcastle venue.

Studio Theatre

Our Studio Theatre is a flexible black-box space for performances, rehearsals and other events. We can accommodate approximately 70–80 audience members, or provide a clear flat-floor layout for non-performance activities.

Foyer

Our Foyer provides an attractive open space with exhibition walls, a modern bar and flexible seating. We can accommodate up to 120 people, making it suitable for celebrations, meetings and performances.

Greenroom

Our Greenroom provides comfortable seating and a fully equipped bar, creating a relaxed space for meetings, play read-throughs and relaxation. We also provide step-free access to this area.

Rehearsal Room 1

Our larger rehearsal room measures 5m by 12m and provides a practical space for theatre rehearsals, meetings and breakout activities. We can also use it as additional support space for larger events.

Rehearsal Room 2

Our second rehearsal room measures 9m by 7m and can support theatre rehearsals or function as a breakout space for meetings. The room has windows and hard vinyl flooring.
