The Boiler House

The Boiler House is a contemporary events and conference venue located at the heart of Newcastle University's main city-centre campus. The original building dates from 1923 and was redeveloped in 2016–17, transforming the historic structure into an event space while retaining important exterior architectural features including its oak doors and crenellations. The venue is positioned around the Student Forum, between the Armstrong Building and Newcastle University Students' Union, making it particularly convenient for university conferences, academic events, student activities, staff functions and professional gatherings. It has hosted conferences, award ceremonies, musical performances, graduation-related receptions, exhibitions and workshops. The University's current Room Finder identifies The Boiler House G.03 as an events and meeting space with a published capacity of 80 people. The space has standard audiovisual equipment and ReCap facilities. The wider venue has a substantial installed AV system, including a 5-metre-wide projection screen, lectern monitor, wireless presentation connectivity, front-of-house speakers, four Sennheiser speech microphones and an induction-loop system. The venue has step-free access, accessible toilets and induction-loop facilities. However, it is worth noting that the University's technical information states that The Boiler House is not natively hybrid-event enabled; external AV provision is required for a hybrid event.
