South Shields Museum & Art Gallery is a cultural and heritage venue located on Ocean Road in the centre of South Shields. The museum explores the history, people, art and heritage of South Tyneside through permanent displays, temporary exhibitions and educational activities. It is operated by North East Museums on behalf of South Tyneside Council. In addition to its museum and gallery functions, the venue offers venue hire for events and parties, making it relevant for event-centre research. Its first floor contains an art gallery with regular exhibitions as well as bookable meeting and learning rooms, providing smaller spaces for meetings, educational sessions and organised group activities. The museum also contains The Victorian Pantry, a themed tea room serving hot and cold drinks, homemade cakes and savoury food. The café provides an additional hospitality element for visitors and potentially supports suitable museum activities and bookings.
