The Dolphin Centre is a major leisure, community and events facility in the centre of Darlington. Although it is best known for swimming, fitness, sport, bowling and family activities, the building also contains a substantial collection of meeting and function spaces. The centre has undergone significant refurbishment and continues to provide facilities for conferences, seminars, meetings, weddings, celebrations and community events. The most prominent event space is Central Hall, a Grade II-listed Victorian ballroom with chandeliers. It can accommodate up to 450 people in theatre style and 200 in cabaret, and the council describes it as suitable for large conferences and seminars. It also has PA, hearing-loop and presentation facilities. The centre also has a Main Hall, which is considerably larger in physical area and is capable of accommodating very large events. Cvent lists a standing capacity of up to 1,200, although the council's own meetings document does not provide a formal capacity for this hall. Smaller spaces include the Pease Suite, Seminar Room, Stephenson Suite and Function/Meeting Room, allowing the centre to handle everything from small board meetings to larger conferences. The building also contains swimming pools, sports facilities, bowling, soft play, gym facilities, catering and a bistro/café operation.
Central Hall is the Dolphin Centre's historic ballroom and principal formal function space. It accommodates up to 450 theatre-style guests and 200 cabaret guests, with PA, hearing-loop and presentation facilities available.
The Pease Suite is a first-floor meeting and conference room designed for medium-sized business gatherings. It can accommodate up to 36 people in boardroom format or 90 theatre-style. Presentation equipment, catering and refreshments can be arranged, making it suitable for meetings, seminars, training sessions and presentations.
The Seminar Room is located on the first floor and is fully accessible. It is particularly suitable for boardroom meetings, seminars and smaller presentations. The room accommodates up to 34 in boardroom style or 60 theatre-style, with the boardroom capacity reducing to 28 when allowing for disabled-access requirements.
The Stephenson Suite is a smaller private function and ceremony room within the Dolphin Centre. The council identifies it as part of the Register Service and uses it as a ceremony room for smaller weddings. It can accommodate up to 40 people in theatre style and is suited to intimate functions.
The Function Room is located on the ground floor and is fully accessible. It is designed for smaller meetings and private functions, with boardroom seating for up to 20 people. Presentation equipment, catering and refreshments can be requested, making it suitable for small business meetings and intimate gatherings.
The Main Hall is the Dolphin Centre's largest physical event area and provides a substantial indoor floor suitable for large-scale events. Cvent lists a standing capacity of up to 1,200. It can be used for large community events, sporting activities, competitions, exhibitions and other high-volume indoor functions.
