Hull New Theatre is a Grade II listed performing arts venue located on Kingston Square in the centre of Hull. Originally opened in 1939, the theatre underwent a major £16 million refurbishment and reopened in 2017. It now combines its historic auditorium with modern technical, front-of-house and event facilities. The venue primarily operates as a performance theatre, hosting touring West End productions, musicals, dance, drama, family shows, workshops and Hull's major annual pantomime.
Beyond theatrical performances, Hull New Theatre is available for private and corporate hire. The venue's official hire information identifies two principal hire areas: the main auditorium, with fixed rake seating, and the Lounge Bar, which accommodates up to 50 people in theatre configuration. The venue is therefore particularly suitable for conferences, presentations, lectures, talks, screenings, award ceremonies, performances, community events and large-scale cultural events.
Facilities include a professional stage, modern technical infrastructure, internet/Wi-Fi access, lighting, private-hire areas, onsite catering and licensed bar facilities. The building also provides a main foyer bar, Circle Bar, Lounge Bar, café facilities and accessibility infrastructure.
The theatre is accessible through a level main entrance and lift access to the stalls and bar levels. Wheelchair spaces are available at events, while accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility are also provided.
