Woodhorn Museum is an award-winning industrial heritage attraction located at the former Woodhorn Colliery site in Ashington, Northumberland. The colliery operated from 1894 until 1981, and the museum preserves its buildings, machinery and collections to tell the story of Northumberland's coal-mining communities. The museum also houses the internationally recognised Ashington Group Collection, associated with the artists known as the Pitmen Painters. For events, Woodhorn offers something considerably different from a conventional hotel or conference centre. Its preserved colliery buildings provide distinctive industrial architecture, while its dedicated venue-hire operation provides modern event support. The museum currently advertises two principal event spaces: The Winding Room, which accommodates up to 70 seated or 40 in boardroom format, and the Workshop Galleries, which can accommodate up to 200 for a standing reception, 150 seated or 100 for dinner. The venue provides catering, bar facilities, AV equipment, tables, chairs, crockery, glassware and front-of-house support. It also has extensive free on-site parking and outdoor areas suitable for alfresco events and marquees.
