Hexham Abbey is one of Northumberland's most significant historic religious buildings and a distinctive events venue in the centre of Hexham. The present Abbey has origins dating back to the seventh century and combines medieval architecture, historic interiors and an active religious community. Alongside worship and heritage activities, the Abbey operates a dedicated venue-hire service within its Priory Buildings. The Priory Buildings contain four principal function rooms: the Great Hall, Prior's Hall, Wilfrid Room and Etheldreda Room. These can be hired individually or as a suite, allowing the venue to accommodate everything from small meetings and private gatherings to larger weddings, receptions and corporate events. The Great Hall is the largest, with a maximum capacity of 150, including 112 in banquet configuration. The Prior's Hall accommodates up to 70, while the Wilfrid and Etheldreda Rooms accommodate 32 and 28 respectively. The venue provides flexible furniture arrangements, Wi-Fi, projectors, microphones and presentation equipment. Its catering team can provide breakfasts, buffets and formal wedding menus, while the kitchen can also be hired for self-catering or external chefs. One of Hexham Abbey's strongest differentiators is its ability to incorporate the heritage building into corporate experiences. Private tours, crypt visits, roof climbs and bell-ringing can be arranged as activities alongside room hire.
The Great Hall is Hexham Abbey's largest function room and is particularly suited to weddings, larger receptions, conferences, dinners and private celebrations. It features Regency-period decoration, a richly decorated ceiling and five large west-facing windows overlooking the Abbey Grounds. The official capacity is 150, or 112 in banquet style
Prior's Hall is a highly atmospheric historic function room featuring medieval arched windows, a stone fireplace and oak flooring. It is suitable for conferences, parties, smaller receptions and meetings. When the wider suite is hired, it can also function as the reception and welcome-drinks area.
The Wilfrid Room is a light, adaptable meeting and function room connected to the Great Hall and kitchen. It works particularly well for smaller business meetings, conferences and receptions, and can also serve as a food-servery or bar area when the larger Great Hall is hired.
The Etheldreda Room is a characterful smaller meeting and function space with medieval arched windows and a large Georgian window. It is suitable for smaller receptions and meetings and can provide a quieter area for guests during larger events.
The grounds surrounding the Abbey provide an attractive historic outdoor setting and views for photography, receptions and event activities.
