Lindisfarne Castle

Lindisfarne Castle is one of Northumberland's most distinctive historic landmarks, dramatically positioned on a rocky outcrop on Holy Island. The castle began as a Tudor fortification and was later transformed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens into an Edwardian holiday home for Edward Hudson, founder of Country Life magazine. The National Trust now cares for the castle, its collections and surrounding landscape. The property combines historic interiors with an exceptional coastal setting. Visitors can explore the furnished castle, including the kitchen, galleries and batteries, while outside there is a small walled garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll, historic Victorian lime kilns and walking routes around the castle headland. Views extend towards the Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle.
